Job Description

Job Title: Education Public Relations Intern

Overview:
The FINN Partners Education Public Relations Internship offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of education, policy, philanthropy, and business. The intern will support efforts to advance education initiatives, collaborating with national and international experts, policymakers, advocates, nonprofits, and philanthropic funders. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about the transformative power of education and keen to develop a career in public relations, journalism, public affairs, communications, or marketing.

Internship Program Details:
Term: Fall 2025
Duration: A 12-week program, typically starting late August and concluding mid-December. Start and end dates are flexible and determined on a case-by-case basis to accommodate academic calendars.
Work Hours: Interns are expected to work a minimum of 15 hours per week, Monday through Friday, generally from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. The hours offer flexibility to accommodate course schedules.
Work Environment: FINN Partners provides a flexible working environment, offering options for fully remote or hybrid work within their U.S. offices.
Compensation: This is a paid internship, and the experience can also be used to earn course credit for necessary undergraduate requirements.

General Intern Responsibilities (Interns Will):
• Provide support to organizations operating at the crossroads of education, policy, philanthropy, and business.
• Support effective client engagements, gaining experience in account management.
• Write compelling content, which includes conducting research and producing strong written materials.
• Engage with the media by developing and pitching story ideas to secure coverage for clients.
• Manage social media efforts, supporting content development, community engagement, and campaign management.
• Curate media reports and analyses, including in-depth analysis on key issues relevant to clients.

Key Responsibilities Will Include:
Monitoring and compiling daily or weekly media clips for the team and clients.
Researching key client issues, and developing landscape analyses, media insights, and thought leadership opportunities.
Drafting various written materials, such as press releases, advisories, contributed articles, and briefing documents.
Supporting media relations activities, including the creation of media lists, pitches, and interview preparation materials.
Supporting monthly reporting to clients on activities, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and other aspects of project scopes.
• Engaging in account management activities like maintaining project trackers, assembling agendas, identifying action items, and learning about budget and forecasts.
• Providing general account support, including participating in internal and client calls as required, and undertaking other assigned tasks.
Supporting the creation of new business proposals when requested.

Role Specific Skills/Attributes:
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides.
Proficiency in AP style, along with strong writing skills adapted for social media.
Strong writing and editing skills, or demonstrated experience writing for a variety of platforms, voices, and tones.
Deep knowledge of social media tools and platforms, including LinkedIn, X (formerly Twitter) or Blue Sky, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.
• A keen interest in pursuing a career in public relations, journalism, public affairs, or communications and marketing.
Interest and basic knowledge of the US education system (early childhood, K-12, higher education).
Ability to maintain self-management on projects and tasks, particularly in remote working environments.
Self-motivated, friendly, and eager to learn.

Preferred Skills (A Plus):
• Prior experience with Meltwater, Muck Rack, Canva, and other relevant programs.
