AGENCY ATTORNEY LEVEL II | New York City Police Department

What You’ll Actually Do
• Preserve and Collect: Assist in preserving, collecting, and organizing large volumes of electronically stored information (ESI) for litigation, Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests, and investigations.
• Database Management: Create document databases using eDiscovery platforms, prepare document review workflows, manage productions, and generate privilege logs.
• Negotiation and Representation: Assist Legal Bureau attorneys in negotiating ESI discovery obligations with external parties and represent the NYPD’s interests in court conferences and other proceedings.
• Training and Support: Provide ongoing eDiscovery platform end-user training and technical support to Legal Bureau personnel.
• Case Assessment and Review: Perform hands-on early case assessment, document review, and analysis using eDiscovery platforms, developing practical solutions for reviews and productions.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Admission to the New York State Bar with subsequent legal experience; this role is suited for an early-career attorney.
• Experience: One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar; OR six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086). For Assignment Level II, candidates must have one year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to bar admission in related areas of law.
• Skills: Strong interest in eDiscovery, litigation support, and technology-assisted legal processes; familiarity with federal and state discovery rules and procedures; excellent project management skills including prioritizing requests and meeting deadlines; excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and organizational abilities; ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality regarding document and subject sensitivity.
• Bonus: Familiarity with eDiscovery platforms (training is provided, and willingness to learn is acceptable); experience with data management, information governance, or compliance; ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
