Early Career Field Construction Engineer

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Early Career Field Construction Engineer for our Chicago, IL office.

This Opportunity

As an Early Career Field Construction Engineer, you will be involved in projects with our PMCM Team, contributing to a growing organization that consistently meets client objectives and solves complex challenges.

Your Impact

The responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Complete training on assigned tasks, demonstrating a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering strictly to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs, showcasing adaptability and initiative.
  • Provide limited office management support for a construction management project, ensuring smooth operational flow.
  • Review and update schedules and record drawings, maintaining accurate project documentation.
  • Keep meticulous logs of contract documents, facilitating easy retrieval and reference.
  • Assist with construction field work tasks and activities on a project to ensure conformance to plans, specifications, and other contract documents, contributing to quality assurance.
  • Upload documents to the project’s construction management document control site, ensuring organized digital records.
  • Perform engineering submittal reviews for compliance with contract documents, verifying adherence to specifications.
  • Observe material test reports for contract compliance, confirming material quality meets project standards.
  • Perform office engineer duties such as, but not limited to, material submittal reviews for contract compliance, taking meeting minutes, processing contractors’ pay estimates, responding to Requests for Information (RFIs), and performing quantity calculations.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, and identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents, highlighting potential issues.
  • Review contractor’s daily construction reports for accuracy, thoroughness, and consistency.
  • Consult with the Resident Engineer on work progress and construction problems, proactively recommending solutions, assisting in the resolution of issues, and acting as a liaison with the engineer of record.
  • Identify some discrepancies or conflicts within documents and gain familiarity with the quality of work performed using inspection checklists.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related degree.
  • 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
  • Prior internship experience, leadership experience, or relevant coursework demonstrating foundational knowledge and work ethic.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong technical writing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with an emphasis on producing quality work products.
  • Valid Illinois Driver’s license.
  • The selected candidate must have the ability to work in the United States immediately.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Office Engineering duties on large construction projects.
  • Experience with Labor Compliance and verification of Certified Payrolls.
  • E.I.T. (Engineer-in-Training) certification preferred.
  • Experience with e-builder preferred.

Compensation

Expected Salary: $65,600 – $90,200

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
