Job Description: Early Career Civil/Geotechnical Engineer
WSP is seeking a full-time Early Career Civil/Geotechnical Engineer to join our US Mine Waste Team. This role offers the opportunity to work on challenging mining, heavy civil, and geotechnical projects within a growing organization.

Your Impact and Responsibilities:
As an Early Career Civil/Geotechnical Engineer, you will contribute to various projects for the mining industry, with potential involvement in other sectors. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Engineering Tasks:
- Site and material characterization.
- Facility design, including grading, storage capacity, and construction quantity evaluations.
- Performing analyses such as slope stability, seepage, consolidation, liner system, and settlement analyses.
- Designing and analyzing surface water management facilities.
- Technical Documentation:
- Preparing portions of technical reports that detail field and laboratory investigations, engineering analyses, and facility designs.
- Assisting with the development of project design packages, including technical drawings, specifications, engineering calculations, schedules, and cost estimates.
- Generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and field/work site notebook/logs.
- Field Assignments:
- Performing domestic and international field assignments, which may include geotechnical investigations and construction monitoring.
- Safety and Ethics:
- Complying with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures, including data collection and surveys.
- Exercising responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
- Training and Other Duties:
- Completing training on assigned tasks.
- Performing additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are:
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Experience: 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
- Certifications: Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or the ability to complete it within 6 months of the start date.
- Skills:
- Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset.
- Competent interpersonal and communication skills for effective and professional interaction with both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
- Proficient self-leadership, attention to detail, multi-tasking abilities, and prioritization skills in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
- Workplace Standards:
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements, which may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification.
- Master’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical engineering, or a relevant field of study.
- Prior internship experience related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.
- Membership and/or active participation in local professional practice organizations.

Compensation:
Expected Salary (California Only): $58,200 – $87,300
WSP USA determines compensation based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and compensation.
