Job Description: Early Career Civil Engineer
WSP is seeking an Early Career Civil Engineer to join their team in Lakewood, CO; Anchorage, AK; Madison, WI; or Creve Coeur, MO. This role supports the US Mine Waste Team and involves working on challenging mining, heavy civil, and geotechnical projects within an international team.
Responsibilities:
• Engineering Tasks: This includes geotechnical field investigations, site and material characterization, design of facilities (grading, storage, construction quantities), slope stability, seepage, consolidation, liner system, and deformation analyses for facility designs, and surface water management analysis and facility designs.
• Technical Reporting: Preparing portions of technical reports documenting field and laboratory investigations, engineering analyses, and facility designs.
• Project Design Packages: Assisting in the preparation of project design packages, including technical drawings, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates.
• Field Assignments: Performing domestic and international field assignments such as geotechnical investigations and construction monitoring.
• Documentation: Generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and field/work site notebooks/logs.
• Safety Compliance: Adhering to safety guidelines and site-specific procedures, including location data, statistical documentation, engineering studies and surveys, and construction.
• Training: Completing assigned training tasks.
• Ethical Conduct: Exercising responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
• Additional Responsibilities: Performing additional duties as needed.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Geological Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
• Strong analytical skills (engineering calculations and analyses).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficient self-leadership, attention to detail, multitasking, and prioritization skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Comfortable working in remote settings.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
• Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (AutoCAD and Civil 3D).
• Active focus on health and safety.
• Ability to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% domestically and/or internationally.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree in Civil, Geological, or Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Engineer in Training Certification.
• Familiarity with additional design software (MicroStation, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS).
• Relevant internship experience.
• Membership/participation in professional organizations.
Compensation: (Colorado Only) $66,000 – $88,000 (Note: This is a range and may vary based on experience and location.)
