Job Description: Early Career Chemist/Environmental Scientist

WSP is seeking an Early Career Chemist/Environmental Scientist for their Marlton, NJ office, with consideration given to candidates in Newark NJ, Lawrenceville NJ, Bristol PA, Blue Bell PA, and Exton PA. This entry-level position offers the chance to join a fast-paced team focused on environmental remediation projects. The role blends field and office work, demanding careful attention to detail, thorough documentation, teamwork, problem-solving skills, and proactive communication.

Responsibilities:

Data Validation: Validate environmental analytical data according to USEPA, regional, and state guidelines, ensuring data quality objectives are met. Prepare data validation narratives and data usability reports.
Laboratory & Field Coordination: Coordinate environmental laboratory services and field sampling events. Manage and report environmental analytical data and geo-environmental data using various software platforms.
Fieldwork: Participate in diverse field programs, including the collection, handling, and shipment of environmental samples (groundwater, soil, surface water, sediment, soil vapor, indoor air) while adhering to state and federal regulations. This involves the ability to lift and move approximately 50 pounds and operate company vehicles.
Teamwork: Collaborate with project managers and colleagues to complete work programs.
Safety: Maintain a safe work environment in both office and field settings; fieldwork may require working in various weather conditions.
Travel: Engage in local and national travel (up to 10% of the time) with potential short-term assignments at project sites.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, environmental science, geology, or a related field.
• 0-1 years of relevant work experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, with advanced Excel skills).
• Excellent verbal and written communication, analytical, and organizational skills; positive attitude; detail-oriented; ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Willingness to handle diverse assignments with short notice.
• Understanding of and commitment to health and safety protocols and WSP’s safety programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience (internships preferred).
• Knowledge of organic and inorganic chemical analyses, including USEPA analytical methods.
• Experience with EQuIS™ Professional software.
• 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER and 8-hour refresher (as applicable) for fieldwork.
