HFG has established a strong reputation for handling high-octane films within the action, thriller, and horror genres, emphasizing projects driven by notable cast, directors, and filmmakers. Its International Sales department is particularly skilled in packaging and selling films to a global network of buyers at major markets such as Cannes, Berlin, AFM, and Toronto, developing commercially viable campaigns to connect films with audiences worldwide. HFG also has a newly created Domestic Initiative aimed at expanding its presence within the U.S. marketplace by building direct relationships with domestic buyers, broadcasters, and platform partners.
The Avenue, launched in 2020, serves as Highland Film Group’s U.S. distribution division. It manages all facets of distribution, from theatrical releases to home entertainment and television/SVOD. The Avenue is committed to collaborating with filmmakers, employing innovative marketing and distribution strategies to ensure their stories reach the broadest possible audience. Its Domestic Distribution & Digital team focuses on U.S. theatrical releases, home entertainment, and digital distribution, including AVOD and FAST channels, and is recognized for its innovative approaches to maximizing revenue and exposure across evolving streaming ecosystems while maintaining a significant theatrical footprint.
The combined Highland Film Group & The Avenue Sales & Distribution Department oversees both international and domestic sales, licensing, and distribution across various platforms including theatrical, home entertainment, and digital. This department manages the marketing and licensing of over 25 films annually, crafting customized strategies and sales materials for distributors globally. It is led by senior executives with extensive experience in global sales negotiations, domestic distribution, and market presentations.
### Job Description: Domestic and International Film Sales Internship
• Job Title: Domestic and International Film Sales Internship

• Type: Part-Time, Unpaid Internship (College Credit available)
• Location: Los Angeles, CA (6310 San Vicente Blvd, 90048). The role is On Site & Remote, requiring 1-2 days in the office per week.
• Term: Fall/Winter 2025
This internship offers a unique 360-degree perspective on the business of film sales and distribution. Interns will gain hands-on exposure to global markets, U.S. domestic initiatives, and digital platforms like AVOD and FAST. The role provides insight into how films are marketed, packaged, and licensed for both traditional and emerging platforms.
Interns will be integral in assisting with the preparation of sales materials, tracking licensing activities, conducting research on buyer and platform trends, and supporting the coordination of major international film markets (AFM, Cannes, Berlin, Toronto), as well as U.S. theatrical and digital releases. It’s a collaborative, fast-paced role that involves working alongside executives across sales, acquisitions, marketing, and distribution, offering valuable insights into the business strategies that drive the independent film industry worldwide.
Key Responsibilities (Under Guidance from Team Members):
• Sales Materials & Presentations:
• Assist in drafting, proofreading, and organizing sales one-sheets, decks, and synopses.
• Support the creation of pitch materials for international buyers, domestic broadcasters, and digital platforms.
• Market Research & Analysis:
• Conduct research on distributors, platforms, and buyers across various territories.
• Track trends in AVOD, FAST, and transactional platforms to identify new opportunities.
• Benchmark the performance of comparable titles and provide competitive insights.
• Film Markets & Festivals:
• Support preparation and coordination for major film markets (AFM, Cannes, Berlin, Toronto).
• Help maintain screening schedules, client outreach lists, and meeting logistics.
• Assist in follow-up communications with buyers and distributors post-market.
• Domestic Initiative Support:
• Maintain and update databases of domestic buyers, broadcasters, and platform contacts.
• Support outreach efforts with U.S. partners, broadcasters, and digital platforms.
• Assist in organizing deliverables and materials for domestic licensing.
• AVOD & FAST Distribution:
• Help prepare pitch decks and metadata for AVOD/FAST partners.
• Track digital performance reports and assist with internal analysis.
• Research emerging platforms and FAST channel operators to expand sales opportunities.
• Administrative & Team Support:
• Update and organize contact sheets and licensing trackers.
• Assist in scheduling and documenting sales meetings.
• Provide general organizational and operational support to ensure smooth day-to-day department workflow.

Required Qualifications & Skills:
• Must be at least 18 years old at the time of application.
• Currently enrolled in college courses or a graduate from an accredited United States college.
• Eligible for unrestricted work authorization within the United States.
• Willing to accept an unpaid position and capable of receiving college credit or providing a school acknowledgment letter for educational purposes.
Desired Qualifications & Skills:
• Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) for research, presentations, and tracking sales activity.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to draft synopses, sales copy, and professional correspondence.
• Effective multitasking and organizational abilities to manage multiple markets, buyers, and platform deliverables.
• Interest or prior experience in the film industry, sales, acquisitions, or distribution is advantageous.
• Familiarity with digital platforms (AVOD, SVOD, FAST) and emerging streaming trends is highly encouraged.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud Apps (Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere, After Effects) is a plus for building pitch decks and promotional materials.
• Comfort with email marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp) and CRM databases is a bonus.
• Strong research and analytical skills to benchmark performance and identify opportunities in both international and domestic markets.

Perks:
• Upon completion of the internship, hired candidates will receive a stipend for lunch meals and for any ride-shares incurred to travel to the office. Both are capped and details can be discussed during onboarding.
