Job Summary: DOD Skillbridge Project Manager

The DOD Skillbridge Project Manager Internship offers a unique opportunity for separating military members and their spouses to gain invaluable experience in the utility infrastructure sector. This 12-week program provides a comprehensive glimpse into the operational backbone of MasTec Utility Services.

As a DOD Skillbridge Project Manager intern, you will be instrumental in assisting with the direction of both in-house crews and external subcontractors, ensuring project efficiency and successful delivery. A key aspect of this role involves direct engagement with our valued customers, participating in critical phases such as project bidding and billing.

This internship is designed to provide broad exposure across several vital departments within MUS, including:

  • Fleet: Understanding equipment management and logistics.
  • Safety: Learning critical safety protocols and best practices.
  • Operations: Gaining insights into day-to-day project execution.
  • Contracts: Familiarizing yourself with contractual agreements and compliance.
  • Field Data Support: Exploring data collection and analysis to support field operations.

Internship Locations: Opportunities are available in Texas and Colorado.
Eligibility Requirement: You MUST be a separating military member or the spouse of a separating military member to apply for this Internship.

Key Responsibilities

As a DOD Skillbridge Project Manager intern, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Project Leadership Support: Assisting in the effective management and leadership of both internal project teams and external subcontractors to ensure projects are delivered within budget and on schedule.
  • Communication and Reporting: Daily reporting and communication of project status and updates to both external customers and internal management stakeholders.
  • Process and Team Development: Contributing to the building of robust processes and the development of effective teams necessary to fulfill all project requirements comprehensively.
  • Coordination: Collaborating closely with the Project Construction Lead on the timing, execution, and successful closeout of individual projects.
  • Meeting Facilitation: Assisting Project Managers in organizing and conducting weekly meetings with clients and the project team to review progress and address issues.
  • Crew Management: Responding to requests for crews to be deployed to various projects and providing clear direction on the overall tasks and objectives that need to be completed.
  • Financial Management Support: Assisting in the crucial tasks of bidding and billing for each project upon its successful completion.
  • Equipment Assurance: Ensuring that crews are provided with the correct and necessary equipment required for each project, facilitating smooth operations.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of project management experience (this includes internships and externships).
  • Higher Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or a related field of study.

Preferred:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position operates primarily within a professional office environment, utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, and scanners. The role is largely sedentary, though some filing, bending, lifting, and carrying may be required. Candidates must be able to bend, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds.
