Job Description

Job Title: Distribution Engineering I (Dallas)

As a Distribution Engineer, you will work under the supervision of a technical lead to support the development of design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems. These systems operate from 4kV through 138kV and are mostly associated with programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspection and maintenance, joint use, and inspection reports.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems.
  • Ensure compliance with safety requirements and design and quality expectations.
  • Travel to sites as needed, perform inspections, and return to the office to perform engineering design work.
  • Perform engineering calculations, including structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, and voltage drop and flicker calculations.
  • Develop permitting documents for different Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and apply engineering principles and design for mitigation.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Civil Engineering required.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ArcGIS, and ArcMap.
  • Experience with distribution design tools like BOUD, SOCKET, or similar.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools, MicroStation, and GIS.
  • Experience with NESC and design standards.
  • Internship or academic projects related to power utilities or energy are highly preferred.
  • EIT certification is preferred but not required.
  • Interest in developing work packages for various projects using GIS and WMS systems.
  • Comfortable working in both field and office settings.

Work Environment

This is primarily an office position with occasional fieldwork required (90% office, 5-10% field). Training will be provided in customer engineering and construction standards, offering the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of areas including NESC, structural pole modeling, electrical power calculations, GIS design training, project and financial management, and client design standards.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Frisco, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $29.81 – $29.81/hr.
