Key Responsibilities: What You’ll Do
As a DCM Intern, you will be immersed in various facets of distribution center management, gaining practical experience across critical operational areas:
- People Management & Development: You will play a role in understanding and communicating performance standards that are specific, measurable, and actionable. This includes monitoring attendance, productivity, and other key performance markers, as well as observing and understanding how to provide constructive counseling or recognition to associates as needed to foster a high-performing team environment.
- Operational Excellence & Efficiency: Dive deep into the heart of our operations by evaluating existing work methods and recommending changes to increase the productivity of dispatch and warehouse processes. You’ll gain practical experience by providing relief coverage for operational duties during associate time-off or absences, ensuring seamless workflow. Develop a strong working knowledge of the site’s operating systems to guarantee operational compliance and effective resolution of exceptions. Furthermore, you will be responsible for completing all necessary records and reports in a timely and accurate fashion, honing your administrative and analytical skills.
- Financial Acumen & Inventory Control: Understand the critical link between operational decisions and profitability. You’ll ensure compliance with vital financial policies and procedures, including maintaining inventory accuracy and control, managing returns, and handling damages. This exposure will sharpen your awareness of cost management and its impact on the bottom line.
- Safety Leadership & Compliance: Safety is paramount. You will actively contribute to ensuring day-to-day management and associate activities are in full alignment with the location’s robust safety strategy. This involves providing associates with essential communication, training, feedback, and direction to promote safe performance. You’ll also help ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies and company safety policies and procedures, contributing to a secure working environment.
- Customer Experience & Continuous Improvement: Cultivate a deep understanding of our location-specific customer goals and objectives. You’ll be challenged to identify areas that could benefit from Continuous Improvement (CI) efforts, proposing innovative solutions that enhance efficiency and elevate the overall customer experience.
- Fleet & Asset Utilization: Learn the nuances of effective resource management by assisting in properly planning work assignments to ensure the optimal use of our fleet and warehouse equipment, maximizing operational output and minimizing downtime.

Intern Qualifications: Who We’re Looking For
Penske is seeking driven, proactive, and committed individuals to join our team. Ideal candidates will possess:
- Academic Pursuit: Currently pursuing a related business degree, demonstrating a foundational interest in supply chain, logistics, or operations.
- Educational Standing: Must be a college student entering their junior or senior year. A High School diploma or GED is required.
- Academic Excellence (Preferred): A GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred, showcasing strong academic capability.

- Must be able to commute to the operation daily.
- Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job, demonstrating reliability.
- Ability to work in non-climate controlled conditions, reflecting adaptability to warehouse environments.
- Flexibility to rotate through different shifts to gain comprehensive experience is preferred.
