Director, Portfolio Management | Mozilla

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Mozilla, located in Remote, USA. Mozilla is a mission-driven portfolio of companies and organizations working together to shape an internet that serves people and the public good. This portfolio includes the Mozilla Foundation, Mozilla Corporation, MZLA, Mozilla Ventures, Mozilla.ai, and Mozilla Data Collective, alongside other strategic investments. This role ensures effective management and coordination across Mozilla’s diverse portfolio, supporting its overall nonprofit mission and long-term success.

• Team: Mozilla.org team, reporting directly to Mozilla’s COO, housed within the Mozilla Management Company
• Mission: To integrate portfolio planning, governance, performance management, and cross-organizational execution to ensure Mozilla’s assets advance its mission.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Portfolio Planning & Performance: Lead the integration of organizational strategies, operating plans, and capital requirements to drive portfolio-level planning and double bottom line goal setting.
• Portfolio Data Management: Develop and maintain the information architecture for portfolio management, including dashboards, scorecards, and reporting on organizational priorities, performance, and risks.
• Portfolio Governance & Operating Model: Maintain and evolve operating frameworks, decision rights, and playbooks to clarify how Mozilla.org and portfolio organizations work together, optimizing operational effectiveness.
• Cross-Portfolio Execution: Lead or coordinate high-priority initiatives that span multiple Mozilla organizations, translating portfolio priorities into clear workstreams, owners, and delivery cadences.
• Leadership & Decision Support: Serve as a strategic and operational partner to the COO and Mozilla.org leadership, designing operating forums and influencing effectively across portfolio organizations without direct authority.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Director-level experience with 10+ years in a multi-entity holding company or an investment management, private equity, venture capital, or development finance organization.
• Experience: Direct prior experience in a portfolio-level role, coupled with expertise in strategy, business operations, portfolio operations, or strategic program management.
• Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, expertise in managing qualitative and quantitative metrics tracking and systems thinking, and excellent written and verbal communication for executive-level materials.
• Bonus: Familiarity with Board governance and capital allocation processes, alongside a strong connection to Mozilla’s mission and an interest in combining mission impact with operational discipline.
