Job Description
This posting is for a Digital Product Design Intern within Ascension’s Studio Experience Research Design Department.
Internship Summary:
The Ascension Digital Product Design Internship Program offers a paid, on-the-job learning opportunity aimed at providing “real world” product design work experience. The program is designed to support both healthcare workers and patients by enhancing human-centered experiences through design, data, and technology.
Objective:
The primary objective is to cultivate a learning environment where interns can develop essential skills and competencies to become successful product design professionals, with the potential to become future Ascension associates.
Key Details:
• Department: Studio Experience Research Design
• Schedule: Part-time, 10-15 hours per week
• Location: Remote
• Duration: Fall to Spring 2025-2026
Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
The intern will be actively involved in various aspects of the digital product design process, including:
• Working with cross-functional teams in an Agile development model.
• Participating in team meetings and ceremonies.
• Assisting in the ideation and design of diverse experiences, including software applications and service design.
• Engaging in feedback discussions with users and internal stakeholders to refine concepts.
• Presenting designs for critique and feedback to stakeholders and fellow xRD members.
• Seeking feedback from other team members (Design, Product, Development).
• Collaborating with the research and design team to conduct user research using methodologies like surveys, interviews, and usability testing.
• Analyzing and synthesizing research findings to identify insights and opportunities for improving digital experiences.
• Assisting in developing wireframes, prototypes, and user interface designs based on user-centered design principles.
• Contributing to user testing sessions and iterating designs based on feedback.
• Working closely with cross-functional teams (marketers, developers, content creators) to ensure design solutions meet user needs and business objectives.
• Contributing to ongoing projects focused on optimizing website usability, multi-language support, ADA accessibility, and overall user satisfaction.

Requirements:
Education:
• High school diploma equivalency OR
• Enrolled in an accredited program specific to the discipline.
Additional Preferences:
• Recently graduated or current degree-seeking major working toward a certification, bachelor’s or master’s degree in HCI, interaction design, service design, or related fields with coursework in user experience design.
• Applicants from non-collegiate design programs or with previous real-world experience will also be considered.
• Knowledge of design methodologies such as design systems, user interface design, heuristic evaluation, information architecture mapping, flow diagramming, sketching and ideating, wireframing, prototyping, and creating detailed design specifications for hand-off to developers.
• Proficient in Google Suite tools or equivalent.
• Proven organizational skills.
• Excellent written and communication skills.
• Passion for user-centered design and improving digital experiences.
• Familiarity with design tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe Creative Suite is advantageous.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate ideas and insights effectively.
• Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to problem-solving and learning.
