Job Title: Digital Media & Content (DMC) Intern

Overview:

Are you passionate about digital media, content creation, and hockey? The Columbus Blue Jackets are seeking a highly motivated and creative Digital Media & Content (DMC) Intern to play a pivotal role in expanding and enhancing the team’s digital presence. This internship offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the fast-paced world of professional sports, contributing to a diverse range of functions critical to managing and maintaining our digital platforms. You will be instrumental in the ideation and publishing of innovative content on emerging platforms, notably TikTok, alongside comprehensive content tagging, performance analysis, and crucial live event content capture and coverage.

Beyond daily operations, you will be deeply involved in the strategic planning and execution of content coverage for high-profile summer events and key initiatives. This includes, but is not limited to, significant moments such as the NHL Free Agency, NHL Draft, Development Camp, Prospects Tournament, and Training Camp, providing invaluable hands-on experience in dynamic sports media environments.

Key Duties and Tasks:

  • Content Production & Creativity: Proactively contribute to the production of compelling, creative, and engaging digital content tailored for BlueJackets.com and all primary club social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, the official web, and mobile app.
  • Event Coverage Execution: Lead and execute dynamic content coverage for a wide array of Columbus Blue Jackets events. This comprehensive responsibility includes, but is not limited to, graphics concepting, professional photography, videography, expert copywriting, and in-real-time publishing to ensure immediate and impactful audience engagement.
  • Performance Analysis & Reporting: Actively assist in the detailed reporting and insightful analysis of content performance metrics, providing valuable data and insights to both internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborative Relationship Building: Develop and maintain robust, excellent working relationships with various departments across the Columbus Blue Jackets organization, fostering a collaborative and cohesive work environment.

Intern Benefits & Structure:

  • Work Schedule: Approximately 15-20 hours per week, primarily consisting of weekday in-office hours. Flexibility is essential, as occasional evening, weekend, or holiday hours will be required to cover events.
  • Internship Timeline: This immersive internship runs from May through the end of August, aligning with key summer hockey events and initiatives.

Requirements:

We are looking for a candidate who meets the following criteria:

  • Academic Status: Must be currently enrolled in college, with a preference for sophomore standing or above.
  • Major Preference: Strong preference for candidates pursuing a major in Marketing, Journalism, Communications, or other digitally-related fields.
  • Adobe Creative Suite Proficiency: Demonstrated experience and proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, specifically including Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, and Adobe After Effects.
  • NHL Knowledge: A working knowledge of the National Hockey League (NHL), and specifically the Columbus Blue Jackets, is highly preferred.
  • Social Media Acumen: Must be currently active in and possess expert knowledge of current social media trends, platforms, and best practices.
  • Writing & Editing Skills: Exceptional copywriting and editing skills are mandatory, with an eye for detail and engaging prose.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential for effective collaboration and content creation.
  • Self-Motivation & Organization: Must be highly self-motivated with strong organizational abilities and superior time management skills to handle multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Work Environment Adaptability: Ability to thrive and contribute positively in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.
