Job Description: Design Intern
Fleur du Mal offers a hands-on Design Internship experience, where interns will learn the design process from concept and inspiration through pattern making, sourcing, and sample making. As an essential part of a small design team, the opportunity aims to be highly educational.
Reporting Structure:
Interns will directly report to both Associate Designers, who will assign tasks related to both the lingerie and ready-to-wear aspects of the brand.
Expected Responsibilities and Skills:
• Assist in researching upcoming fashion trends, colors, fabrics, and silhouettes.
• Help with creating mood boards, color stories, and inspiration presentations.
• Help develop sketches and design concepts using software such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
• Help source and organize fabrics, trims, and materials for prototypes.
• Help prepare garments and accessories for photoshoots, lookbooks, or runway shows.
• Steam, style, and organize clothing for events or fittings.
• Assist stylists and photographers during photoshoots as needed.
• Help the sample room create prototypes for lookbooks and markets.
• Help source trims and fabric in Midtown, requiring familiarity with the Garment District.
• Prepare cutters must, fabric, and patterns to bring to sample rooms in Midtown and pick up samples when ready.
Qualifications:
• Currently enrolled as a student in a Fashion Design program (or equivalent experience and education).
• Working towards a bachelor’s degree in Fashion or Art.
• Eager and driven to learn.
• Works well in a fast-paced environment.
• Pays attention to detail.
• Understanding of Microsoft Office Programs and Illustrator.
• Must be based in New York.
• Available 2-3 days a week.
• MUST be able to receive school credit for the Spring semester.
