The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law is a nonpartisan law and policy institute focused on improving democracy and justice systems in the United States. They address issues ranging from voting rights and campaign finance reform to ending mass incarceration and preserving Constitutional protections. The Brennan Center combines rigorous research, innovative policy development, and advocacy in various arenas including Congress, state legislatures, courts, and the public sphere.
Job Description:
The Brennan Center for Justice is seeking interns to provide research, administrative, and clerical support to staff in their Democracy program at their New York City office. This is an in-person internship.
Responsibilities:
• General Support: Assist with general research, administrative, and clerical tasks including filing, answering phones, coordinating meetings, drafting routine correspondence, and covering the reception desk.
• Substantive Exposure: Attend and observe substantive meetings, events, and conversations related to program work.
• Litigation Support: Provide support for litigation efforts.
• Research and Reporting: Assist in the research for and rollout of reports.
• Advocacy Assistance: Aid the program’s advocacy efforts in areas such as Voting, Elections and Government, Judiciary, Federal Reform, Redistricting, and other related projects.
Qualifications:
• Skills: Independent self-starter, detail-oriented, energetic, punctual, highly organized, excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
• Technical Proficiency: Experience with Microsoft Office is required; experience working with data is very helpful.
• Passion: Demonstrated passion for the Brennan Center’s issues.
• Adaptability: Open to evolving responsibilities.
• Eligibility: Current undergraduate student.
Additional Information:
• Hours: Approximately 10 – 20 hours per week
• Pay: $17.50 per hour
• Duration: September – December 2025
