The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law is a nonpartisan law and policy institute focused on improving democracy and justice in the United States. They conduct rigorous research, craft innovative policies, and advocate for them in various arenas, addressing issues ranging from voting rights to national security policies.
Job Description:
The Brennan Center’s Democracy Program is seeking second and third-year law students for a Fall 2025 semester internship in their New York office. Interns will work alongside staff on policy advocacy, research, and litigation initiatives, contributing to various aspects of the program’s work.
Key Responsibilities May Include:
• Legal, policy, and factual research in support of advocacy efforts.
• Administrative and legislative advocacy at federal, state, and local levels.
• Public education and scholarship.
• Complex factual research.
• Litigation support in trial and appellate courts, including legal research and writing for amicus briefs.
• Drafting communications to legislators.
• Assisting with writing comments to federal agencies.
• Attending coalition meetings.
• Drafting posts for the Brennan Center blog.
• Programmatic and strategic planning.
The work will focus on areas such as:
• Voting rights.
• Election administration reform.
• Campaign finance reform.
• Empowerment of historically disenfranchised communities.
• Protecting the independence, impartiality, and integrity of the courts.
• Eliminating partisan gerrymandering.
Important Details:
• Location: In-person at the New York City office.
• Qualifications: Excellent legal research, analysis, and writing skills; initiative, imagination, and versatility; and a passion for the issues.
• Hours: Approximately 10-15 hours per week.
• Pay: $20.00 per hour.
• Duration: September – December 2025.

• Eligibility: Open to current law students only.
