Degreed Entry-Level Tax Accounting Analyst | Primary Services

The Tone:
This is a direct-hire role at Primary Services, located in the New Orleans Central Business District, offering a hybrid schedule with four days in the office and Fridays remote. The company is a growing Gulf South energy utility, providing essential natural gas service to hundreds of thousands of customers across Louisiana and Mississippi. This role is crucial for supporting tax accounting, reporting, and compliance activities within a complex, multi-jurisdictional regulated utility environment. What You’ll Actually Do
• Tax Accruals: Prepare tax accruals and maintain the supporting calculations and workpapers.
• Tax Filings: Prepare and file state and local tax returns, including sales and use tax, and support property tax reporting.
• General Ledger: Reconcile tax-related general ledger accounts and investigate any discrepancies found.
• Financial Close: Support month-end and year-end close activities that are related to tax accounting.
• Audit Support: Prepare necessary documentation and respond to information requests to support tax audits.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required, ideal for an entry-level accounting professional.
• Experience: 1–5 years of accounting and/or public tax experience, where relevant internship experience is acceptable, along with experience with general ledger reconciliations, financial close activities, or financial reporting; experience working with an ERP system is required.
• Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the ability to independently research accounting and tax requirements to apply new concepts.
• Bonus: Experience preparing tax accruals or supporting tax filings, knowledge of state and local tax compliance processes, exposure to state and local tax (SALT) requirements, and experience within the utility, energy, or regulated industry are all preferred.
