About the Job: Datacenter Technician (DCT) Intern
This is an internship position for a Datacenter Technician (DCT) within Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) group. The intern will play a crucial role in supporting the physical infrastructure of Microsoft’s datacenters.
Key Responsibilities:
• Deployment Support: Assist in the deployment of physical infrastructure within the datacenter.
• Installation & Troubleshooting: Install, replace, and troubleshoot cables and various hardware components.
• Device Handling: Safely handle data-bearing devices such, as hard drives and solid-state drives.
• Ticket-Based Environment: Work effectively within a system that uses tickets to manage tasks and issues.
• Equipment Movement: Utilize pallet jacks or other assisted lifting equipment to move heavy equipment.
• Cultural Alignment: Embody Microsoft’s company culture and values.
Required Qualifications:
• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Technical Knowledge: Basic understanding of computer hardware and components.
• Program Participation: Past or current enrollment as a student in the Microsoft Data Center Academy.
• Academic Pursuit: Currently pursuing or have completed a certificate or degree in Information Technology, Information and Communication Technology, or a closely related field.
Other Requirements (Security Screening):
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.
• Must pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Certifications: Applicable industry certifications such as CompTIA (A+, Server+, Network+) or Basic Structure Cabling (BSC).
• Physical Ability: Ability to frequently stand, walk, lift, and work at heights, with or without equipment assistance.
• Communication Skills: Able to communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders.
• Language Proficiency: Proficient in both written and oral English communication to support regional and global teams.
• Learning Orientation: A desire to learn, grow, and develop new technical skills.
• Flexibility: Willingness to work non-standard business hours, which may include weekends and/or holidays.
Compensation and Benefits:
• The base pay range for this internship is USD $22.02 – $28.46 per hour.
• For specific work locations within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range is USD $26.20 – $29.71 per hour.
