Database Administration Internship Description

General Purpose:

The Database Administration internship provides hands-on experience managing and optimizing a variety of database platforms, including PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Snowflake, Pervasive, and DynamoDB. Interns collaborate with a dynamic team to enhance database performance, ensure robust security, and support network and server administration efforts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Shadowing: Learn essential duties and functions of a Database Admin through observation.
Performance Optimization: Fine-tune SQL queries to enhance performance for business users, report generators, and developers.
Documentation & Building: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation on database systems and processes. Build and configure database management systems (DBMS) instances.
Troubleshooting & Upgrades: Diagnose and resolve system issues. Perform and test upgrades for DBMS servers.
Collaboration: Work with data architects, engineers, and developers to establish, maintain, and monitor data networks.
Migrations & Conversions: Oversee database server migrations and develop conversion scripts between different platforms.
Management & Security: Monitor, manage, and maintain database performance, security, and functionality.
Design & Optimization: Develop and refine the physical design of database systems. Manage user access and assist with ETL tool repositories such as Informatica and SSIS.
Automation & Reporting: Automate routine administrative tasks. Provide detailed status reports on ongoing and upcoming projects.
Other Related Work: As assigned.

Qualifications:

• Actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, Mathematics, Information Management, or a related field.
