Data Scientist Intern Job Description
General Purpose of the Job
The Data Scientist Intern, as a member of the Data Analytics & Reporting Center of Excellence (COE), will utilize their skills in artificial intelligence, machine learning, advanced analytics, statistical analysis, and programming to develop data-driven solutions supporting corporate initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Shadowing: Observe and learn from experienced Business Intelligence Developers, Data Analysts, and Data Scientists to understand the role’s essential duties and functions.
• COE Contribution: Contribute to a Center of Excellence (COE) model, leveraging company data to drive business decisions.
• Advanced Analytics: Apply various advanced analytics techniques, including data aggregation, statistical modeling, predictive modeling, and machine learning.
• Project Participation: Engage in complex data-related analytical projects that drive business decisions and efficiencies.
• Collaboration: Work with business partners to develop innovative ways to meet objectives using data, cutting-edge techniques, and tools.
• Communication: Effectively communicate analytical approaches and their impact on objectives to business partners.
• Data Governance: Adhere to data management and data governance policies and standards.
• Other Responsibilities: Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Education and/or Experience
• Active Pursuit: Actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as statistics, mathematics, computer science, or data science.
• Graduate Degree: Hold a graduate degree in a quantitative discipline and demonstrate a proven Data Science skillset.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Technical Skills: Experience with SQL queries, feature engineering, data analysis, data tools, building prototypes, using and creating algorithms, and creating simulations.
• Programming: Experience using statistical computer languages such as Python or R.
• Statistical and Machine Learning: Knowledge and experience in statistical and machine learning techniques including GLM/Regression, Random Forest, Boosting, Trees, text mining, social network analysis, etc.
• Advanced Algorithms: Experience creating and using advanced machine learning algorithms and statistics including regression, classification, anomaly detection, simulation, scenario analysis, modeling, clustering, decision trees, neural networks, etc. on large datasets.
• Data Merging and Transformation: Experience merging and transforming disparate internal and external datasets together.
• BI Tools: Experience using BI tools like Tableau and Power BI.
• Soft Skills: Strong organizational and planning skills, excellent communication skills, ability to effectively present information to stakeholders, and the ability to handle pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
