Job Description: Data Scientist

The Voleon Group is expanding its data-driven investment initiatives and is seeking a talented Data Scientist to join their new team. This role is crucial to Voleon’s success as a machine learning company, where data insights are essential.

Responsibilities:

Data Integrity & Monitoring: Design and implement systems to ensure data accuracy and monitor the health of data stores and live feeds.
Abnormal Behavior Detection: Proactively identify unusual production behavior and communicate findings to relevant stakeholders.
Data Analysis & Insights: Conduct ad-hoc analyses on research and production trading systems, collaborating with leadership.
Actionable Insights: Leverage financial expertise and statistical analysis to extract actionable insights from production trading and research systems.
Automated Analysis: Design and implement pipelines to automate valuable analyses for ongoing monitoring.

Requirements:

• 1+ years of applied industry experience, including internships, working with complex datasets (curation, querying, aggregation, exploratory analysis, visualization).
• Expertise in statistical methods for data analysis, identifying patterns, conducting root cause analysis, discovering insights, and recommending solutions.
• Ability to translate complex questions into mathematical frameworks.
• Strong analytical skills to infer useful future directions from historical data.
• Proficiency in managing, processing, and visualizing tabular data using SQL, Pandas, and R.
• Basic software development skills with experience in bash, Linux/Unix, and git.
• Excellent communication skills to translate complex analysis into clear and concise reports.
• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (statistics, biostatistics, data science, computer science, or related).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline.
• Prior industry experience or demonstrated interest in finance (academic projects, financial engineering coursework, internships).
• Experience in production-facing development environments and familiarity with CI/CD, git, and Airflow.

Compensation:

The base salary range for this position is $150,000 to $190,000. Actual salary is determined based on factors such as education, experience, knowledge, skills, and location. The benefits package includes comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, life and AD&D insurance, 20 days of paid time off, 9 sick days, and a 401(k) plan with a company match.
