Job Description

Data Science Internship/Graduation Assignment

Your Assignment:

Canon Production Printing (CPP) seeks a Data Science student for an internship or graduation assignment focused on printhead failure analysis. Their inkjet printers are designed for high volume printing with low operational costs, and the printhead is a crucial component. Printhead failures negatively impact print quality and are costly to replace.

The Project:

This project utilizes logging data (sensor data, error data, usage data) from printers to analyze printhead failure mechanisms. Your goal is to develop a method to automatically identify the most probable failure mechanism from the available data.

Challenges:

• Develop an automated classification method for printhead failure mechanisms.
• Account for and potentially identify yet unknown failure mechanisms.
• Implement the method to predict upcoming failures in printheads that haven’t been replaced.
• Handle large data volumes, including high-frequency sensor data and low-frequency usage/error data.
• Work with relatively small amounts of failure data (typically 20-30 failures or less per mechanism).

Your Profile:

• Currently studying Data Science or Data Analytics.
• Seeking an MSc internship or graduation assignment.
• Possess a critical attitude and a desire to understand data.
• Have at least basic Python and SQL knowledge.
• Available for 5 to 8 months, working a minimum of 4 days per week.

What’s in it for you:

• A challenging assignment with skilled coaching.
• Internship/Graduation compensation of €500,- per month.
• Travel cost compensation (if not eligible for ‘OV-weekcard’).
• Networking opportunities with professionals within and outside your field.
• A collaborative, innovative, and ownership-oriented environment.
