About Company
The New York Red Bulls (RBNY) are one of 30 teams participating in Major League Soccer (MLS). As one of the ten original charter clubs, RBNY has been part of the league since its inception in 1996. The team plays its home matches at Sport Illustrated Stadium (SIS) located in Harrison, New Jersey. The New York Red Bulls are three-time winners of the MLS Supporters’ Shield. The club is owned by the Austrian beverage company Red Bull, after which the team is named. Beyond the professional team, the New York Red Bulls are recognized for offering one of the nation’s premier youth soccer development programs, which includes local soccer partnerships across New York and New Jersey, Regional Development Schools, and the Red Bulls Academy teams.
Job Description
This is an unpaid, for-credit internship (proof of credit required) with the New York Red Bulls. It is a remote opportunity.
Purpose of this Internship:
The primary purpose of this internship is to provide the intern with practical experience in applying their knowledge of data science, computer science, and mathematics within the context of a professional soccer team. The intern will support multiple facets of the organization, including departments such as scouting, match analysis, and player development. The role involves aiding various processes including data cleaning, databasing, and software building.
What You’ll Learn (Responsibilities):
During this internship, the successful candidate will gain experience and learn the following:
• Developing communication skills specific to an elite sporting environment.
• The ability to foster a data-driven culture within an organization.
• How to create new Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across various departments.
• The process of creating algorithms and processes tailored for an elite sporting environment.
Required Areas of Knowledge and Expertise:
The ideal candidate for this role should possess the following skills and qualifications:
• Proficiency in R / SQL.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Prior experience with Web Scraping.
• Demonstrated excellence as a Communicator.
• Currently enrolled in a Mathematics, Data Science, or Computer Science Program.
Logistical Information:
• This is a remote internship opportunity.
• It is an unpaid, for credit internship (proof of receiving credit is required).
• Due to the cyclical nature of the entertainment industry, assigned hours may vary to reflect the team’s needs, including nights and weekends.
