Description: Data Science Intern – Valorant Data Ops
This is a full-time, 10-12 week summer internship for currently enrolled M.S. or Ph.D. students in statistics, engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, or a related quantitative field. The intern will be part of the Valorant Data Ops team, working directly with game feature teams, game designers, and software engineers.
Responsibilities include:
• Collaborating with game feature teams to optimize player experience design and delivery.
• Partnering with game designers and software engineers to design and implement data-driven features and services.
• Designing and applying data science systems to live games, focusing on areas like matchmaking, skill determination, and personalization. This involves working with high-volume data to create personalized player experiences, optimize game strategy, and refine in-game features.
Required Currently pursuings:
• Enrollment in an M.S. or Ph.D. program in a relevant quantitative field.
• Full-time availability for 10-12 weeks during the summer.
• Experience in statistics, statistical modeling, and optimization.
• Proficiency in Python for data processing and machine learning model building.
• Experience with databases and SQL.
Desired Currently pursuings:
• Basic understanding of data warehousing, relational databases (e.g., MySQL), and distributed data processing/storage systems (e.g., Spark, Flink, Hadoop).
• Basic experience with Spark or other big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop).
• Basic experience with cloud data tools (e.g., AWS, GCP).
The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a collaborative spirit, and a player-centric approach to decision-making. A demonstrated passion for gaming and player empathy are highly valued. The internship is remote-only and pays USD $61.78 per hour.
