About The Role: Data Science Intern

The Data Science Intern will leverage extensive datasets and models to assist Tesla engineers in designing and validating high-quality, reliable products. Responsibilities include:

Data Collection and Modeling: Gathering substantial real-time data from testing, manufacturing, and the Tesla vehicle & energy product fleet. Developing statistical models to inform decisions regarding prognostics and targeted design improvements. This work directly impacts millions of Tesla customers.
Software Development: Designing, developing, training, and deploying predictive/control models for physical degradation, usage, and system performance. Creating robust, adaptable, and automated software tools for complex real-time fleet analysis. Building scalable and reliable data pipelines to productionize and monitor models.
Data Analysis and Communication: Addressing intricate questions about fleet usage and behavior to enable proactive monitoring, enhance reliability, and minimize field failures. Developing visualizations to effectively communicate analytical findings.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, train, and deploy predictive/control models of physical degradation, usage, and system performance.
• Build robust, flexible, and automated software tools for complex analysis of real-time fleet data.
• Design scalable and reliable data pipelines to productionize and monitor both new and existing models.
• Answer complex questions on fleet usage and behavior to enable proactive monitoring, improve reliability, and minimize field failures.
• Build visualizations to effectively communicate results.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science or a related Engineering field.
Excellent software development skills and proficiency in writing production-quality code in Python.
Strong understanding of linear algebra, probabilistic theory, numerical optimization, and deep learning, with practical implementation experience.
Practical experience with low-level programming languages (C, Rust) and database technologies (SQL).
• Familiarity with PySpark and Big Data frameworks.
• Familiarity with CI/CD.
• Ability to code robust applications (potentially interfacing with data streams).
• General knowledge of physics and engineering principles.
