Data Science Internship at Peraton

Peraton is seeking Summer 2025 Data Science Interns to join their Internal Research & Development (IRAD) program in Herndon, VA, West Lafayette, IN, or Blacksburg, VA. This internship will provide you with the opportunity to work on exciting research projects in areas such as health, finance, defense, and cybersecurity.

You will:

• Work in a collaborative environment with full-time staff, learning and growing your skills.
• Build experience in diverse projects and domains.
• Work in an Agile development environment.
• Identify requirements, data, and key insights for model development.
• Develop code to clean data, create complex feature sets, and build models using industry-leading technologies and frameworks.
• Deploy models into production environments using techniques for continuous model quality evaluation.

This program is geared toward technical college students and rising juniors and seniors at four-year universities, majoring in data science, data analytics, computer science, computer engineering, or a related field.

Required Qualifications:

HS Diploma and some advanced level training.
U.S. Citizenship.
• Completed progress towards a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• Foundational experience with data science technologies such as Python, R, Spark, and SQL.
• Foundational experience in cleansing and processing data for model development.
• Hands-on experience through coursework and/or prior internships with data science frameworks such as Tensorflow, Sci-kit learn, Numpy, PyTorch, Matplotlib, Shap, and/or similar tools.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to adapt and learn new technologies and concepts quickly.
• Self-motivation, independence, attention to detail, and teamwork skills.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

Desired Qualifications:

3.0 and above GPA.
• Exposure to Agile development processes and tools.
• Familiarity with developing ETL and data quality pipelines for large data processing.
• Prior experience with distributed compute architectures such as Spark, Kubernetes, or Docker containers.
• Ability to explain complex technical problems to non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to self-manage tasks independently and communicate collaboratively.

This program requires interns to be available for the entire ten-week period (June to August) and commit to working a minimum of 35-40 hours per week.

Target Salary Range:

$25.00/hour
