About Canon Production Printing
Canon Production Printing is a global leader in developing and manufacturing high-tech printing products and workflow software for the commercial printing market. They are part of the larger Canon group, a global provider of imaging technologies and services.
The company operates on three continents with approximately 3300 employees (as of 2022) and has its global headquarters in Venlo, the Netherlands.
Canon Production Printing focuses on creating inkjet printers designed for high-volume printing while maintaining high quality and flexibility. These printers are specifically targeted towards the business-to-business market.
Data Science Graduation Assignment: Printhead Failure Analysis
The project involves analyzing data from Canon’s inkjet printers to identify the cause of printhead failures and automate the process of determining the most likely failure mechanism.
The main goal is to develop a method that can classify the failure mechanism of a replaced printhead automatically.
The project will involve the following challenges:
• Developing a classification method: Analyze sensor data, error data, performance data, and usage data to determine the most probable failure mechanism.
• Handling unknown failure mechanisms: Develop a way to deal with potential new or unknown failure mechanisms.
• Predicting future failures: Apply the developed method to printheads that have not been replaced yet to identify potential issues and provide early warning.
• Handling large amounts of data: Work with large datasets, including high-frequency sensor data (logged every few seconds) and less frequent data like error codes and usage data.
• Working with limited failure data: The data will include a relatively small number of failures (around 20-30) per failure mechanism.
This is a great opportunity for a Data Science or Data Analytics student looking for a challenging graduation assignment at a large international company.
The ideal candidate will have:
• Strong understanding of data science methodologies and techniques.
• Basic Python and SQL knowledge.
• Critical thinking skills and curiosity to understand observations.
• Availability for 5 to 8 months, working at least 4 days per week.
Benefits of the assignment:
• Challenging project with skilled coaching.
• Internship/Graduation compensation of €500,- per month.
• Travel cost compensation if needed.
• Networking opportunities with professionals in various disciplines.
• Chance to contribute to an innovative company with a focus on collaboration, innovation, and ownership.
