Assistant Vice President – Data Governance | Mashreq

The Tone:

This role is crucial for defining, implementing, and monitoring the bank’s data quality and governance strategies. The position ensures data assets are reliable, compliant with regulations, and effectively utilized across all functions.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Data Quality Strategy & Governance: Define and implement data quality policies, standards, and procedures, ensuring alignment with the bank’s data governance framework and regulatory compliance.
• Monitoring & Issue Management: Design data quality measurement frameworks, lead the development of dashboards, and identify, assess, and remediate data quality issues through root cause analysis.
• Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration: Act as a subject matter expert for data quality, partner with data stewards and owners, and conduct training sessions to embed best practices across the bank.
• Technology & Automation Integration: Collaborate with technology teams to integrate data quality tools into the bank’s architecture, leveraging AI/ML solutions for profiling and anomaly detection.
• Data Governance Implementation & Communication: Manage data governance committees, facilitate metadata capture, and effectively communicate the value and impact of governance to business stakeholders.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Manager level role with extensive experience in metadata management and data governance implementation within a banking environment.
• Experience: Proven track record in data-related projects, practical experience implementing data management standards (e.g., DAMA), and hands-on experience with Informatica Data Governance tools (EDC, Axon, DEQ) and Microsoft Purview.
• Skills: Strong understanding of data governance policies, data quality measurement frameworks, root cause analysis, data domain discovery, classification, taxonomy, and the ability to create business glossaries and design data catalogs.
