Description:

This is a full-time, paid co-op position at Amazon, typically working 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, between 8 am and 5 pm. Specific hours may vary based on team norms. Students must be available during these hours and cannot have conflicting classes or other employment.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be currently enrolled in a co-op program at a US university and have at least one quarter/semester/trimester remaining in their studies after the co-op concludes. They must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Management, Information Systems, or a related technical field, with an expected graduation date between October 2025 and December 2028.

Location and Start Date:

The co-op can be located in several US cities: Greater Seattle Area (Seattle, Bellevue, Redmond), Greater Bay Area (San Francisco, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara), Greater DMV (DC, MD, VA), Austin (TX), New York City (NY), and Minneapolis (MN). Applicants can express location preferences, but Amazon cannot guarantee their selection due to business needs and role availability. The start date is within the Winter period (January/February 2025). Final location and start date will be determined during the offer process.

Internship Responsibilities: The Data Engineer Co-op will:

Design, implement, and automate the deployment of distributed systems for collecting and processing log events.
Design data schemas and operate internal data warehouses and SQL/NoSQL database systems.
Develop and maintain metrics, reports, analyses, and dashboards used for key business decisions.
Monitor and troubleshoot operational or data issues in data pipelines.
Drive architectural plans for future data storage, reporting, and analytic solutions.
Develop code-based automated data pipelines processing millions of data points.
Improve database and data warehouse performance by optimizing queries.
Collaborate with Business Analysts, Data Scientists, and other partners.
Troubleshoot and resolve defects in data pipelines.

Currently pursuings:

Basic Currently pursuings: Experience with database/data warehouse/data lake solutions; SQL experience; experience with at least one scripting language (Python, KornShell, Scala); 18 years of age or older; commitment to a minimum 40-hour work week and a maximum 6-month co-op; experience with data transformation; currently enrolled in a US co-op program; currently pursuing or will receive a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Preferred Currently pursuings: Knowledge of data schema design (normalization, relational vs. dimensional models); experience building data pipelines or ETL processes; experience writing and optimizing SQL queries with large datasets; experience with big data processing technologies (Hadoop, Apache Spark), data warehouse architecture, ETL, and reporting tools; experience with data visualization software (AWS QuickSight, Tableau); previous internship experience; AWS experience; understanding of different data types (JSON/NoSQL, relational); Master’s degree in a related field.

Compensation:

The hourly base pay ranges from $43.85 to $88.94, depending on location and experience. Additional compensation may include equity, sign-on payments, and benefits.
