Detailed Job Description:
The internship offers a learning experience in applying data analysis skills to real-world government projects. Interns will work under the supervision of the Enterprise Data Team to manage and deliver analytic projects from start to finish.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Utilizing tools like SQL and R to prepare and analyze operational and survey data.
• Creating clear and compelling data visualizations and reports for stakeholders with varying levels of data literacy.
• Employing data analysis and visualization tools (R, Power BI, Tableau) to identify patterns and trends in datasets.
• Developing documentation, guidance, and policy materials related to data usage.
• Managing and delivering one or more analytic projects, under supervision, from scoping to implementation.
Minimum Job Requirements:
• Ability to create effective data visualizations and reports.
• Proficiency in at least one scripting language for analysis (R, Python, Stata, SPSS).
• Understanding of core statistical concepts (bias, variance, sampling, regression).
• Strong attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Requirements:
• Proficiency in R, SQL, and Python.
• Familiarity with GIS and mapping concepts.
• Experience with open-source data visualization tools (ggplot2, plotly, D3).
• Experience with natural language processing.
• Experience performing analytics in a government setting.
Working Conditions and Requirements:
Successful candidates must pass background checks for CJIS certification, and further background investigation may be required.
What You Will Learn or Accomplish:
This internship will enhance analysis and communication skills through work on complex government projects. Interns will gain exposure to data analysis in local government and participate in structured learning opportunities about various City of Boulder departments.
