Customer Service Representative | U-Haul

U-Haul is a leading company in the moving and storage industry, providing essential equipment and services to individuals embarking on personal journeys. As a Customer Service Representative, you serve as the direct face of U-Haul’s commitment to exceptional service, playing a vital role in guiding customers through their rental process. This position is central to ensuring that customers receive all the necessary assistance, from understanding product offerings to having well-maintained and ready equipment for their moves, ultimately contributing to a smooth and successful customer experience.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Customer Interaction: Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, assisting them with U-Haul products and services both inside and outside the center, and educating them on available options.
• Equipment Management: Efficiently operate, dispatch, return, move, and hook up U-Haul trucks and trailers for customer rentals, ensuring proper handling and safety.
• Equipment Maintenance: Conduct routine cleaning, thorough inspection, and basic maintenance tasks on all equipment on the lot, including diligently checking fluid levels, to ensure readiness and safety.
• Technical Services: Provide specialized installations such as hitches and trailer wiring, and perform propane filling services upon completing U-Haul’s provided certification.
• Inventory & Transactions: Utilize smartphone-based U-Scan technology to accurately manage inventory, prepare rental invoices, and efficiently process equipment returns.
The Must-Haves
• Background: This early career role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, demonstrating foundational knowledge. Candidates must also be committed to continuous learning and participate in ongoing education provided through U-Haul University, enhancing their expertise in company products and services.
• Experience: Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and demonstrate the ability to maintain a good driving record, which is essential for safely moving and positioning U-Haul equipment.
• Skills: Key skills for this role include strong customer assistance and communication abilities to effectively engage, assist, and educate patrons. Practical aptitude for equipment inspection, cleaning, and basic maintenance is crucial, along with the physical capability to move equipment weighing a minimum of 50 lbs., assisted or unassisted. Proficiency in using smartphone-based technology for inventory management and rental processing is also required.
