Wheeler Clinic (also referred to as Wheeler) is an organization that offers community-based intervention services. Specifically, through its Alternative in the Community (AIC) programs, Wheeler provides support for adults involved with the court or probation system. Their core mission is to assess individual needs and reduce involvement in the criminal justice system, utilizing curriculum-driven, evidence-based models. They serve adults in New Britain, Bristol, Meriden, and Middletown.

Job Description, Detailed

This is an Internship Opportunity within Wheeler’s AIC (Alternative in the Community) program.

Target Candidate:
• Criminal Justice major.
• Seeking a robust internship opportunity to complete an Undergraduate degree.

About the AIC Program (where the intern will work):
Focus: Provides community-based intervention services for adults involved with the court or probation.
Methodology: Uses a curriculum-driven, evidence-based model.
Goal: Designed to assess the needs of each individual and reduce their involvement in the criminal justice system.
Key Services Offered (and potential areas of intern involvement):
• Substance use intervention
• Trauma groups
• Skill building
• Employment Skills Group
• Case management
• Educational, basic needs and vocational supports
• Gender-responsive programming
Service Areas: Adults in the program are served in New Britain, Bristol, Meriden, and Middletown.
Client Referrals: Adults in this program are referred by the Office of Adult Probation, the court, or parole.
