Credit Controller | Maples Group

The Tone:
This is a full-time, hybrid role at Maples Group, located in Leeds. The Maples Group is a prominent provider of financial and legal services, catering to leading hedge fund managers, private equity firms, and international corporations globally. This position plays a critical part in maintaining the firm’s financial health by managing client accounts, ensuring timely payments, and minimizing bad debt. The Credit Controller supports the firm’s continued success by upholding collection policies and fostering strong client relationships.

The TL;DR

• Team: Collections team, collaborating with Partners, Fee Earners, Senior Stakeholders, and global teams.
• Mission: Maximize client turnover and minimize bad debts while providing high-level support to the Collections team.
• Tech Stack: MS Office (Outlook, Excel), firm’s internal system.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Ledger Management: Oversee the daily operations and management of an assigned client ledger.
• Collection Strategy: Identify clients defaulting on payment terms and collaborate with lawyers/partners to determine the most appropriate course of action.
• Relationship Building: Cultivate relationships with partners and fee earners to ensure adherence to collection policy and escalate problems to management.
• Performance Tracking: Understand how Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are set and strive to achieve them effectively.
• Data Maintenance: Maintain detailed and accurate notes regarding debtors on the firm’s internal system, ensuring the Supervisor receives relevant data.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Professional with experience in credit control within an environment dealing with diverse client profiles, including global blue chip companies.
• Experience: Demonstrated experience in managing client accounts and navigating collection policies within a professional services or legal firm.
• Skills: Strong communication and negotiation skills for effective interaction with both clients and internal stakeholders. Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Outlook and Excel, along with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Bonus: Flexibility to work additional hours at month, quarter, and year ends, or as business needs dictate.
