Job Title: Craftsperson Assistant / Entry-Level Support

Position Summary

As an Entry-Level Craftsperson Assistant, you will provide essential supportive duties to skilled craftspersons, operating under immediate supervision. This role is designed for individuals seeking to learn and grow within the field, with job responsibilities and requirements evolving based on your experience and assigned job step. You will be instrumental in the smooth operation and maintenance of equipment on site.

Experience Level: Entry

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Learn to interpret and understand technical documents including plans, specifications, and Operator’s Manuals for equipment repair.
  • Develop proficiency in using appropriate hand and power tools for equipment repair, replacement, or maintenance tasks.
  • Manage equipment logistics including receiving new equipment, documenting its condition, and establishing regular service and inspection schedules.
  • Assist in organizing a comprehensive library of reference materials, maintaining equipment files, and scheduling backlog tasks.
  • Support equipment operators in the effective use of Daily Walkaround Reports to ensure equipment readiness.
  • Contribute to the generation of accurate Equipment Locator records for project assets.
  • Ensure the safe, clean, and efficient fueling and oiling of all assigned equipment.
  • Verify that equipment is “Job-ready” upon leaving the site for its next assignment.
  • Learn to accurately document equipment status using Off-Hire Reports.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred, with previous experience in a related field being beneficial.
  • Must possess the fundamental knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position.
  • Strong ability to understand, follow, and transmit both written and oral instructions, along with effective communication skills when interacting with management and supervision.
  • Relevant field experience in a chosen craft discipline is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with the safe and efficient use of hand tools, power tools, and layout tools.

Requirements

  • Ability to meet all physical requirements of the job.
  • Must possess all required tools for the role.
  • Comfortable with climbing and working at significant heights (potentially exceeding 200 ft) and in confined spaces.
  • Capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, nights, and weekends as dictated by workload demands.
  • Strict adherence to all safety and project rules. Performs other duties as required.
