Job Description (Cook)
This specific position is an internship/externship ONLY for current students enrolled at the Culinary Institute of America or the Culinary School of Forth Worth.
The Role of a Cook primarily involves the food preparation, execution, and delivery of safely handled food to customer-facing employees for service.
Key Responsibilities include:
• Maintaining a friendly, positive attitude and a professional demeanor.
• Reporting for scheduled events on time and to assigned areas promptly.
• Fulfilling assigned opening and closing duties.
• Reporting to the direct supervisor for prep lists and timelines of daily tasks.
• Carrying out assigned tasks timely and safely using correct recipes.
• Constant maintenance of walk-in coolers, reach-ins, dry storage, and all work areas to ensure cleanliness.
• Possessing extensive knowledge of all menus being offered, including specials.
• Effective communication with Supervisors, Attendants, Runners, Chefs, and Legends Management.
• Working as a team with fellow associates and other service departments within the venue.
• Demonstrating attention to detail to exceed expectations.
• Maintaining a clean, sanitary, and orderly setting within the kitchen.
• Completing closing duties and checking out with a manager/supervisor.
• Knowing the “layout” of the kitchen and back-of-the-house area (e.g., First Aid, bathroom, staircase) to direct staff and guests.
• Being aware of other food and beverage outlets within the venue.
• Being prepared for re-assignment to different locations based on venue needs.
• Working a flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends, and holidays to meet service demands.
Qualifications for the role include:
• Education: A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required; a degree or certificate in culinary arts is preferred.
• Experience: Must have two (2) to four (4) years working in a fast-paced restaurant, caterer, or other relevant food service area.
• Skills & Attributes: Must be proactive, self-motivated, organized, with the ability to prioritize tasks. Essential qualities include being clean and constantly aware of sanitation procedures, ability to work under pressure and adapt quickly, punctuality and dependability, ability to read and retain information (recipes, prep lists, menus, signage), perform simple mathematical calculations, and speak and read Basic English. Candidates must work well with others in a stressful environment, be able to move quickly and act on assigned duties, and maintain personal hygiene and a well-groomed appearance.
• Physical Demands: The role requires the ability to walk long distances and stand for extended periods of time. Physical tasks include standing, kneeling, lifting (at least 30 pounds), carrying items, pushing carts, walking at a fast pace, and bending down.
• Work Environment: The work takes place in a fast-paced, professional kitchen often in close quarters with fellow workers.
• Safety: All employees are expected to practice safe work habits, follow all safety policies and procedures, and complete required safety training.
