Job Description: Continuous Improvement Engineering Intern/Co-op

This role supports the deployment, evaluation, and implementation of Lean principles at the Marmon Transportation Group. The intern/co-op will work under the Regional Lean Specialist and actively promote and facilitate the use of continuous improvement methods (e.g., LEAN tools, root cause analysis, waste reduction) to improve performance in safety, quality, performance, and cost. This position involves working directly with and influencing employees at all levels within the plant.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with local teams to identify process gaps and implement process improvement activities.
• Manage lean transformation activities and projects at a plant level.
• Collaborate with automation team to optimize processes before automating and help build the justification for automation projects.
• Facilitate and execute Value Stream Maps and Kaizen/Impact Events (A3 charter ideation/creation, pre-work, delivering results during Kaizen/Impact week, follow-up and sustainment).
• Facilitate conversations to keep the team focused and accountable on action items.
• Provide formal and informal training, coaching, and mentoring to employees on Lean principles and application.
• Coach process owners on using engineering and Lean methods to achieve operational excellence.
• Establish and implement performance measures, providing regular data reports to track progress.
• Work with site leadership to conduct assessments of critical sites and business needs.
• Actively partner with process owners to ensure results are delivered and business priorities are met.
• Establish the agenda and frequency and be an active participant in regular Management Review meetings.
• Manage personal business travel plans and project prioritization.
• Develop personal and plant competency plans in continuous improvement methods and Lean tools.

Location: Preferred Metropolitan Detroit, Chicagoland area. In addition, other Marmon locations (Midwest, Carolinas, Virginia).
