Job Description:
This internship program is open to undergraduate students seeking hands-on construction experience. Interns will assist project teams throughout all project phases, from bidding to completion. The role involves both office and field work, with potential relocation to remote job sites. Transportation is a requirement, and housing may be provided in specific cases. Internships are 10-12 weeks long, with a 40-hour work week.
Reporting Relationship: Interns will report to a project manager, superintendent, project engineer, or field engineer depending on their assigned tasks and location (office, job site, or a combination).
Tasks: Interns will gain practical experience in the engineering and technical aspects of construction projects. Tasks may include (but are not limited to):
• Quantity take-off
• Layout
• Preconstruction/as-built surveys
• Shop drawing review/approval & log maintenance
• Submittal review/approval & log maintenance
• Request for information (RFI) review/submission & log maintenance
• Interfacing with subcontractors & suppliers
• Attending weekly progress meetings
• Coordinating work between owner, architect & subcontractors
• Assisting in the bid process
• Reviewing construction documents & specifications
• Reviewing document revisions & clarifications
• Maintaining field records
• Assisting with estimates/budgets/value engineering/constructability surveys
• Assisting with contract & purchase order writing
• Preparing billings to the owner & submitting change orders
• Approving invoices
• Ordering & expediting materials
• Scheduling & updates
• Quality control & safety
• Settling contracts
• Permit process
• Costing, scheduling, estimating & project management
• Punchlist & project closeout
• General cooperation and teamwork with field project management
• Other duties as assigned
Education Requirements: Candidates should be pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering (any discipline), engineering technology, construction management, or construction technology.
Technical Skills: Familiarity with software such as Primavera, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Exchange is preferred.
Compensation: The salary range is dependent on several factors and is specified for Maryland/DC only. The provided range is subject to change and does not affect the at-will nature of employment. The listed range excludes other potential forms of compensation.
