Conflicts Attorney | Dorsey & Whitney LLP
The Tone:
This is a hybrid or fully remote role at Dorsey & Whitney LLP, with options to be based out of Minneapolis, Denver, Seattle, Phoenix, or Salt Lake City. Dorsey & Whitney is a global law firm with over 650 lawyers across 22 offices worldwide, providing strategic legal counsel across diverse industries. This role is crucial for maintaining ethical standards and operational efficiency by researching, reviewing, and resolving conflict of interest issues for new business and lateral attorney hires. You will collaborate closely with various firm-wide teams to ensure compliance and timely matter openings.

• Pay: $105000–$165000 yearly
• Team: Collaborates with Conflicts team members, the Firm’s Ethics Counsel, Claims Counsel, Lawyer Recruiting and attorneys firm-wide
• Mission: Research, review, and resolve conflict of interest issues related to new firm business and lateral attorney hires.
• Tech Stack: Intapp Conflicts, specialized software and databases
What You’ll Actually Do
• Conflict Analysis: Research, review, and analyze conflicts reports to accurately identify potential legal conflicts and business issues and assist attorneys in addressing or resolving them.
• Compliance Assurance: Identify potential conflicts of interest to ensure new matters and lateral attorney hires comply with the firm’s conflict and risk management policies and applicable rules of professional conduct.
• Attorney Consultation: Actively consult and advise firm attorneys regarding conflicts clearance status and ensure timely matter opening.
• Documentation & Waiver Drafting: Use firm software to clear conflicts, document resolution steps, ensure outside counsel documentation is current, and assist with drafting conflict waivers and establishing ethics walls.
• Ethics Guidance: Respond to attorney questions regarding potential conflicts of interest, conflict waivers, new business intake policies, review client outside counsel guidelines for compliance, and assist with engagement letter revisions.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school and an active bar membership in one or more states, along with knowledge of rules of professional responsibility.
• Experience: At least 2 years of experience clearing conflicts, drafting waiver letters, reviewing and implementing outside counsel guidelines, and implementing ethical walls at a large law firm. At least 2 years of experience with Intapp Conflicts. At least 2 years of experience reviewing, clearing, and opening matters for Lateral-Hire Attorneys at a large law firm.
• Skills: Highly developed interpersonal skills, excellent written and spoken communication, exceptional tact, diligence, analytical rigor, advanced interpretation and problem-solving skills, strong writing and organizational skills, and the ability to manage time well and prioritize multiple projects.
