Job Title: Computer Vision & Machine Learning Intern (Advanced Research Team – Mobile Platform Services)

Lab Summary:

As part of the Mobile Platform Services (MPS) division within Samsung Research America, you will join the Advanced Research Team. This team is at the forefront of exploring cutting-edge computer vision, machine learning, and AI-driven XR (AR, MR, VR) technologies. Our core mission is to innovate and build the next generation of head-mounted displays, encompassing both commercial products and forward-looking research that will shape Samsung’s technological roadmap for years to come.

Position Summary:

The Computer Vision & Machine Learning Intern will play a pivotal role in the research and development of on-device image transformation, image denoising, image quality enhancement, and machine learning technologies across Samsung platforms. This position uniquely bridges research and product development, with a strong emphasis on creating innovative, efficient, and production-ready solutions specifically tailored for AR/VR systems. A particular focus is placed on algorithms optimized for mobile and embedded devices.

Position Responsibilities:

Research and develop advanced computer vision and machine learning algorithms for image transformation, denoising, and quality enhancement.
Optimize and deploy GPU-accelerated ML pipelines on mobile and Android platforms.
Prototype, evaluate, and refine algorithms for both exploratory research and seamless product integration.
Collaborate closely with fellow researchers and engineers to transition groundbreaking concepts into reliable, production-level solutions.
Contribute significantly to XR-related technologies, including the development of advanced AR/VR imaging and perception pipelines.

Required Skills:

• Currently pursuing a Master’s or PhD in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, or a closely related technical field.
Hands-on experience with practical image denoising and image quality enhancement techniques.
• Demonstrated experience with GPU processing on Android platforms.
Strong understanding of deep learning algorithms, including proficiency in model tuning and optimization using GPU libraries.
• Familiarity with key CV/ML areas such as:
Image visual quality and readability enhancement
Camera tracking and calibration
Camera geometry and image transformation
Machine learning modeling and optimization
• A solid foundation in software engineering principles and tools.
Proficiency in C/C++ and at least one robust prototyping language such as Python.
Strong collaboration, communication, self-motivation, and continuous learning skills.

Special Attributes (Nice-to-Haves):

• Prior experience with AR glasses, AR/VR headsets, or XR development platforms.
• Exposure to developing for real-time or resource-constrained ML systems on mobile or embedded hardware.

Compensation:

Our total rewards programs are designed to motivate and engage exceptional talent. The hourly pay rate range for roles at this level is listed below, but may be higher or lower in other states due to geographic differentials in the labor market. Within the hourly pay rate range, individual rates depend on a number of factors—including the role’s function and location as well as the individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, education and training. This is part of our comprehensive compensation package with annual bonus eligibility and generous benefits to help you live life well.

Hourly Pay Rate Range: $44—$63 USD
