About the Compute Infrastructure Team:

The Compute Infrastructure team at ByteDance is at the forefront of building a large, reliable, and efficient compute infrastructure. Leveraging Kubernetes and Serverless technologies, this infrastructure globally powers hundreds of large-scale clusters, managing over millions of online containers and offline jobs daily. This includes critical AI and LLM workloads. The team is dedicated to developing cutting-edge, industry-leading infrastructure that empowers AI innovation, ensuring high performance, scalability, and reliability for the most demanding AI/LLM applications. A significant aspect of their work involves open-sourcing key infrastructure technologies, prominently featuring projects within the K8s portfolio such as kubewharf (KubeBrain, Katalyst, Godel, etc.).

Internship Program Overview:

We are seeking talented individuals to join us for an internship in 2026. ByteDance internships offer students invaluable industry exposure and hands-on experience, allowing them to witness their ambitions materialize and their inspiration drive infinite opportunities. This program focuses on developing fundamental skills and exploring potential career paths through real-world scenarios. Interns will benefit from a vibrant blend of social events and enriching development workshops, laying a strong foundation for personal and professional growth. The internship duration is 12 weeks.

Responsibilities (Innovation Projects):

This internship offers the opportunity to contribute to a variety of innovation projects supporting diverse Cloud-Native applications, including containers, VMs, Microservices, big data, and AI/LLM. Projects may include (but are not limited to):

• Developing and managing Ultra-large-scale Kubernetes cluster management platforms.
• Working on the Next-Gen AI-Native Godel K8s scheduler with built-in AI intelligence.
• Designing and implementing Intelligent node-level management & scheduling systems for heterogeneous resources (CPU/GPU, Memory bandwidth, Network bandwidth, Power, etc.).
• Focusing on Performance optimization for container runtimes and container image distribution.
• Enhancing K8s Control/data plane stability & reliability with automatic & intelligent observability tools.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Ability to commit to working for 12 weeks during Summer 2026.
• Demonstrated experience with coding in Python, Java, Golang, C#, or C++.
• Must obtain and maintain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and throughout employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Intent to return to a degree-program after the completion of the internship.
• Demonstrated software engineering experience from previous internships, work experience, coding competitions, or publications.
• High levels of creativity and quick problem-solving capabilities.

Job Information & Compensation:

【For Pay Transparency】Compensation Description (Hourly) – Campus Intern

• The hourly rate range for this position in the selected city is $45 – $45.
• Benefits may vary based on employment nature and country work location.
• Interns receive day one access to health insurance, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, and more.
• Interns receive 10 paid holidays per year and paid sick time (56 hours if hired in the first half of the year, 40 if hired in the second half of the year).
• Interns who are not working 100% remote may also be eligible for a housing allowance.
• The Company reserves the right to modify or change these benefits programs at any time, with or without notice.
