Job Description
Chartwells Higher Education is hiring immediately for a Community Wellness Intern position located at 4700 Calhoun Road Suite 102 Houston, TX. Applications are accepted online only. The schedule for this internship is to be determined based on the intern’s class schedule and the company’s needs. Nutrition/Wellness experience is preferred. The pay range for this position is $12.00 per hour to $15.00 per hour.

The Community Wellness Intern will be working closely with the dining leaders at the University of Houston, developing skills and competencies that will help provide them with hospitality and nutrition-oriented experience. The intern will gain valuable experience in the following areas: foodservice operations, nutrient analysis, marketing and promoting of health promoting foods, nutrition education campaigns, menu planning, food safety, quality assurance, planning and implementation of innovation, and client relationship skills.
Qualifications for the Wellness Internship include being enrolled in a dietetics, foodservice, or medical-related field with a GPA of at least 3.25 in all attempted undergraduate work.

Job responsibilities may include any or all of the following:
• Safety: Safe food in a safe environment
• Assuring an exceptional guest experience
• Auditing menu boards for accuracy & allergen station for compliance
• Assisting with Farmers’ Markets
• Bringing innovation into services
• Operational support of serving platforms
• Recipe Nutrient Analysis
• Menu Planning
• Development of nutrition-related materials
• Supporting educational nutrition campaigns
• Executing operational standards
• Willingness to cross-train
Learning objectives for the internship include:
• Demonstrating awareness, understanding, and skills necessary to work in a diverse environment.
• Experiencing opportunities to learn, observe, and practice a variety of nutrition and well-being experiences in the world of hospitality.
It is important to note that this internship should not be confused with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics pre-professional internship requirement. This internship will provide relevant on-the-job experience in the field of foodservice nutrition but does not replace an accredited internship program.
