Job Description: Community Wellness Intern

Location: 4700 Calhoun Road Suite 102 Houston, TX

Pay Range: $12.00 per hour to $15.00 per hour.

General Description:

As a Community Wellness Intern, you will work closely with dining leaders at the University of Houston, gaining valuable experience in the hospitality and nutrition fields. You will contribute to enhancing the well-being of the campus community by supporting various initiatives:

Responsibilities:

Food Safety and Quality Assurance:
• Ensure safe food handling practices in all operations.
• Audit menu boards for accuracy and allergen stations for compliance.
• Assist with implementing and maintaining food safety standards.
Nutrition Education and Promotion:
• Support educational nutrition campaigns.
• Develop and distribute nutrition-related materials.
• Promote healthy eating habits and choices.
Menu Planning and Development:
• Assist with menu planning, considering nutritional needs and dietary restrictions.
• Conduct recipe nutrient analysis.
• Develop innovative and healthy food options.
Operational Support:
• Provide support for various serving platforms and foodservice operations.
• Assist with farmers’ market events.
• Contribute to innovative service ideas and initiatives.
Client Relations:
• Interact with students and staff, promoting healthy eating and well-being.
• Develop positive relationships with clients and stakeholders.

Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in a dietetics, foodservice, or medical related field.
• Minimum GPA of 3.25 in all attempted undergraduate work.
• Passion for food service management and culinary arts.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and communication abilities.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Awareness of sustainability practices in foodservice.
• Interest in one or more of the following:
• Sustainability
• Farm to Fork
• Special Dietary Needs (food allergies, intolerances)

This internship will provide hands-on experience and valuable learning opportunities, including:

• Gaining a comprehensive understanding of foodservice operations in a college setting.
• Developing skills in nutrition education, menu planning, and food safety.

Important Note:

This internship is not a replacement for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics pre-professional internship requirement. It will, however, provide relevant work experience in the field of foodservice nutrition.
