About the Job: Community Support Internship

The Community Support Internship at Thresholds is a structured program designed for students deeply committed to social justice and mental health. It is part of the 2025 internship program and aims to provide an opportunity to gain experience while fulfilling educational requirements. The internship emphasizes rigorous training in evidence-based practices under excellent clinical supervision, positioning interns as future leaders in the social service field. It’s also an opportunity to contribute, partner, and potentially start a career with a leading social service agency.

Key Features of the Internship:
Unpaid: This is an unpaid internship.
For Credit: It is designed to be completed for credit as part of a degree program.

Internship Focus and Activities:
Community Support Interns will collaborate directly with Program Directors, Team Leaders, and Community Support Specialists. They will provide direct service to members, encompassing a wide range of clinical and supportive activities.

Individual Counseling/Therapy
Case Management
Teaching
Assessment
Assertive Community Treatment
Job Support
Treatment Planning
Crisis Intervention
Psycho-social Rehabilitation Services

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Attending New Staff Orientation prior to the internship start.
• Participating in a team to provide clinical services, including counseling, crisis management, and evidence-based practices.
Timely completion of all assigned paperwork, such as individual and group documentation, attendance reports, service plans, and evaluations, as assigned by the supervisor.
• Providing accurate and timely information to the supervisor on all topics and issues critical to the rehabilitation and well-being of Thresholds members.
• Attending staff and team meetings as assigned by a supervisor.
• Maintaining a professional demeanor with members, colleagues, and collateral contacts, consistent with agency ethics and code of conduct guidelines.

Qualifications:

Education:
• Must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program with a major in:
• Social Work
• Counseling
• Psychology
• Rehabilitation Counseling
• Vocational Counseling
• Family Therapy
• Other related human service programs.
1st or 2nd year Master’s students are preferred.
• Specifically listed preferred degrees include:
• Masters or better in Social Service Administration
• Masters or better in Counseling
• Masters or better in Psychology
• Masters or better in Social Work
• Bachelors or better in Psychology
• Bachelors or better in Social Work
• Associates or better in Psychology
• Associates or better in Social Work

Experience:
Social service experience and/or experience working with individuals with mental illness is preferred.
Ability to synthesize and summarize information and make judgments regarding member care.
Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing, to provide information to members and healthcare personnel.
Demonstrated ability to function independently.
Computer skills required; knowledge of database functions and maintenance is necessary.

Skills/Certifications:
• A current and valid driver’s license is required.
