Are you a Reddit aficionado with a keen eye for internet culture and a passion for strategic community building? Brightspot® is seeking a dynamic Community Strategy Intern to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to dive deep into digital communities, shaping how our brand authentically engages with its audience across Reddit and beyond.

About the Role

As our Community Strategy Intern, you will be instrumental in researching, developing, and testing a cutting-edge digital community building strategy. Your primary focus will be on our Reddit presence, a high-signal, community-driven platform where trust is paramount. You’ll spend significant time understanding Reddit’s intricate social norms to ensure our participation is always authentic and well-received.

Beyond Reddit, you’ll be tasked with identifying other relevant online conversations, mapping where our target audience discusses problems we solve, and determining how (or if) a brand like ours can genuinely show up in these spaces. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on uncovering insights from internet chaos and translating them into actionable strategies.

Reporting & Growth Opportunity

Reporting directly into Marketing and working in close collaboration with our Product & Engineering teams, this internship offers an unparalleled opportunity. You will gain hands-on experience in growth marketing, community building, and go-to-market strategy, particularly within the context of internet culture and technical products. It’s an ideal stepping stone for anyone curious about B2B or SaaS environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Community Mapping: Proactively identify and systematically map relevant online communities across various platforms, including subreddits, specialized forums, untapped social channels, and emerging digital spaces. Categorize these by audience, intent, and established community norms.
  • Insight Generation: Conduct deep ‘lurking’ and qualitative analysis to summarize common themes, prevailing language, and user pain points. Your findings will inform our content and product strategies.
  • Brand Monitoring: Diligently track mentions of our brand, competitors, and the broader industry category across identified key platforms.
  • Strategic Recommendation: Develop informed recommendations on where brand participation is appropriate and adds value, versus where discretion and silence are the best approach.
  • Guideline Development: Craft clear, platform- and community-specific participation guidelines. These will dictate how we show up, what behaviors to avoid, and when to strategically remain silent.
  • Experiment Design & Execution: Assist in designing and implementing low-risk community engagement experiments, such as AMA (Ask Me Anything) sessions, strategic comment engagement, and value-add posts.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor the performance of these experiments and meticulously track community response and sentiment.
  • Documentation & Playbooks: Document all learnings, insights, and best practices, transforming them into repeatable playbooks for future community engagement.
  • Strategic Contribution: Share actionable insights that directly inform our content strategy, messaging, and product positioning, ensuring our brand voice resonates authentically.

Qualifications

  • Reddit Expertise: A demonstrably active Reddit user with a deep, intuitive understanding of its social norms, unspoken rules, and cultural nuances.
  • Exceptional Communication: Strong written communication skills, capable of conveying complex ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Pattern Recognition: A proven ability to identify recurring themes and patterns amidst large volumes of unstructured online data.
  • Observational Acuity: Comfortable with and skilled at observing, analyzing, and understanding before taking action.
  • Organizational & Project Management Skills: Adept at managing projects, organizing tasks, and coordinating efforts across different teams.
  • Analytical Mindset: Possesses the organizational capacity to distill internet chaos into clear, actionable takeaways and insights.
  • Strategic Interest: A genuine interest in marketing, community management, or go-to-market (GTM) strategy. Bonus points if you have a curiosity for B2B or SaaS environments.

Compensation & Benefits

This is a part-time, hourly position requiring 15-20 hours per week. The internship will run for a short-term period from February through May. The starting pay for this valuable role is $15 per hour.

Hybrid Expectations

This is a hybrid position. Candidates are expected to work on-site at our Reston or Austin office one day per week, fostering collaboration and team connection.
