About the Job: Community Engagement Intern
Brightline is offering a unique 6-month internship opportunity for individuals passionate about community engagement and mental health. This role is a key part of the BrightLife Kids program, focusing on promoting social and emotional well-being among children and families in California. Interns will primarily support the Community Engagement Leads (CELs). This internship is ideal for those seeking practical experience in behavioral health education, community outreach, and event participation. Brightline also particularly encourages individuals interested in connecting with Spanish-speaking families to apply.
Key Details:
• Duration: 6 months
• Hours: Minimum 8-10 hours per week (weekly hours may vary)
• Schedule: Flexible, can include weekend hours (Monday – Sunday availability)
• Compensation: Paid hourly at $16.50/hr
• Location Requirement: Interns must be located in Orange County, CA.
• Academic Credit: Brightline may be able to collaborate with universities to provide class credit, depending on specific university requirements.
Responsibilities:
• Event Participation: Represent Brightline at various community events, school fairs, and other gatherings. Engage directly with parents to educate them about Brightline’s services and emphasize the importance of child mental well-being.
• Health Education: Deliver informative materials and facilitate engaging discussions to increase public awareness about child behavioral health.
• Community Outreach and Engagement: Assist in initiating outreach efforts through email, phone calls, and in-person meetings to establish and nurture connections with key stakeholders in schools, faith-based organizations, and other community groups.
• Support Community Engagement Leads (CELs): Collaborate with CELs to help develop and execute outreach and marketing strategies that are specifically tailored to the needs of diverse communities.
• Data Collection: Systematically track engagement metrics and provide insights from this data to help continuously improve outreach strategies.
• Mentorship: Benefit from direct guidance and mentorship from experienced Brightline employees, gaining valuable insights into community health and engagement strategies.
• Skill Development: Enhance essential professional skills, including communication, public speaking, and event planning. Learn to navigate public health systems and build strong relationships within diverse communities.
• Professional Experience: Gain hands-on experience in the dynamic field of mental and behavioral health, making a tangible and positive impact on community well-being.
• Networking: Build valuable connections with professionals and organizations dedicated to improving child mental health.
Requirements:
Candidates for this internship should demonstrate the following:
• Time Commitment: Ability to commit to a minimum of 8 hours per week specifically for community events.
• Professionalism: Perform all required tasks and functions with diligence and professionalism.
• Meeting Attendance: Attend supervision, intern, and other scheduled meetings as requested.
• Career Relevance: Must demonstrate how this internship is relevant to their career development and/or higher educational goals (relevant life or work experience may be considered as a substitute for higher education).
• Communication Skills: Possess strong communication skills, both interpersonal and when interacting with supervisors.

• Initiative: Demonstrate a strong sense of personal initiative and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Computer Proficiency: Proficient with computer systems and software, including online research tools.

• Interpersonal Comfort: Enjoy working with people and are comfortable speaking in front of groups.
• Knowledge (Plus): Knowledge of pediatric mental health, public or community health, and community needs is a plus.
• Age/Education: Must be 18 years or older and have completed high school or its equivalent.
• Transportation: Must have access to reliable transportation to commute to in-person events.
• Physical Requirements: The role requires the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds, stand and walk for extended periods, and perform tasks that may involve bending, kneeling, or reaching overhead. Reasonable accommodations can be made for individuals with disabilities.
