Job Description: AARP Oregon Internship
AARP Oregon seeks a creative, passionate, and results-driven student for a paid internship starting in July 2025 (with potential for extension). The ideal candidate will have a background in communications, public policy, or social sciences, demonstrated excellent writing and communication skills, and some experience supporting and coordinating events and projects.
Responsibilities:
• Apply strategic, analytical, and creative thinking to promote policy issues related to family caregiving, financial security, and livable communities.
• Develop and implement communications strategies to advance these policy issues and related events.
• Create content and outreach materials to promote events, enhance volunteer engagement, and improve community engagement.
• Conduct research on policy issues and draft supporting documents for advocacy and outreach efforts.
• Support event and project coordination, participate in team meetings and strategy discussions, collaborate on communications tactics, and assist with community outreach events and projects.
Qualifications:
• Must be enrolled (or have recently graduated and enrolled in continuing education) in an accredited college/university program as a rising undergraduate junior or senior, graduate student, or postdoctoral student. Must maintain enrollment throughout the internship.
• Self-starter with adaptability and ability to work under tight deadlines.
• Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects, anticipate needs, and prioritize tasks.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Familiarity with video creation and editing and knowledge of multiple social media platforms is a plus.
• Regular and reliable job attendance is required.
Compensation and Benefits:
• hourly rate: $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, $28 for Ph.D. candidates.
• Interns are non-exempt and ineligible for employee benefits.
Work Environment:
• Hybrid: Mondays and Fridays are remote (within the US and its territories), other days are spent at AARP’s Oregon State Office in Portland, OR.
