Job Description: Communications Intern
AARP’s Nationwide Community Presence Communications team seeks a highly motivated intern to assist staff and volunteer teams in showcasing AARP’s local initiatives. This is a fully remote, paid internship, anticipated to begin Summer 2025, with potential for extension. The position is open to candidates located anywhere in the United States and its territories.
Responsibilities:
• Apply creative problem-solving skills within a matrix environment.
• Conduct research, analyze data, and prepare written reports of findings.
• Contribute to the writing, editing, and publication of articles via AARP’s Content Management System (CMS).
• Organize creative assets and toolkits for local markets and award applications.
• Audit, edit, and develop internal communications tools and resources.
• Assist in managing digital marketing campaigns, documenting learnings and successes.
• Support the optimization of digital user flow within marketing campaigns (user testing, tracking mechanism review, feedback analysis, web metric analysis).
• Support campaign-related email communications as needed.
• Design and distribute engaging presentations and toolkits.
Qualifications:
• Currently pursuing a degree in journalism, advertising, public relations, marketing, or a related field.
• Must be enrolled as an undergraduate junior or senior, graduate student, or post-doctoral student at an accredited college or university throughout the internship.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of Canva and PowerPoint is a plus.
• Ability to thrive in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
• Strong self-motivation, adaptability, and ability to meet deadlines.
• Excellent project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
• Submission of writing samples and examples of previous video/presentation projects is required.
Compensation and Benefits:
• hourly rate: $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, and $28 for Ph.D. candidates.
• Internship is a non-exempt position and does not include employee benefits.
