Communications Internship | Arizona Civil Liberties Union

The Tone:
This is an internship at Arizona Civil Liberties Union, located in Phoenix or Tucson, Arizona, with virtual or hybrid options. The ACLU of Arizona works to advance equity and dismantle systemic injustice through legal action, policy advocacy, and community mobilization to protect the civil rights, liberties, and dignity of all Arizonans. This role provides an opportunity for students and recent graduates to actively work on multimedia and public relations projects focused on civil liberties issues. The Communications Intern will contribute to advancing civil liberties through practical experience in communications and advocacy.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Research: Research Arizona’s traditional and new media landscape as it relates to issue priorities.
• Tracking: Track current events pertinent to the organization’s agenda and media coverage of ACLU issues and initiatives.
• Production: Contribute to the production of social media, including short form writing, graphics, and video.
• Website Management: Update and maintain the ACLU of Arizona’s website.
• Campaign Support: Assist with communications campaigns, public education initiatives, and other projects by conducting research, drafting outlines, and supporting material distribution.

The Must-Haves
• Background: College students studying graphic design, digital media, marketing, journalism, communications, mass media, or advertising, or recent graduates of related programs. This is an Entry-Level position.
• Experience: Familiarity with Canva, Microsoft Office Suite, video editing, and website content management systems. Demonstrated news gathering skills and an aptitude for visual and written storytelling.
• Skills: Excellent research, writing, and communications skills. Strong attention to detail, organization, and time-management skills. Computer savvy, enthusiastic, creative, and able to work independently.
• Bonus: An interest in political science, civic engagement, communication and media relations, nonprofit advocacy, and current events. Commitment to civil liberties, civil rights, social justice, and the mission of the ACLU of Arizona.
