About the Company:

AARP is the nation’s largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to empowering people 50 and older. They work to improve the lives of Americans 50+ and their families, focusing on health security, financial stability, and personal fulfillment. AARP has a nationwide presence, strengthens communities, and advocates for its members. They also publish AARP The Magazine and AARP Bulletin, the nation’s largest circulation publications. AARP Oregon is specifically seeking a student intern to contribute to their work in the state.

Job Description:

AARP Oregon is seeking a creative, passionate, and results-driven student intern to support their communications, community engagement, and outreach efforts. This is a paid internship with an anticipated start date of July 2025, with the possibility of extension. The internship will be a hybrid model, with Mondays and Fridays typically remote (within the US), and the rest of the work week in AARP’s Oregon State Office in Portland, OR.

Responsibilities:

• Apply strategic, analytical, and creative thinking to promote policy issues related to family caregiving, financial security, and livable communities.
• Develop communications strategies to advance these policy issues and related events.
• Create content and outreach materials to promote events and enhance volunteer and community engagement.
• Research policy issues and draft documents to support advocacy and outreach efforts.
• Support event and project coordination.
• Participate in team meetings and strategy discussions.
• Collaborate on communications tactics.
• Support community outreach events and projects.

Qualifications:

• Must be enrolled in (or have graduated from) an accredited college/university undergraduate junior or senior, graduate student, or post-doctoral student (and remain enrolled throughout the internship or be in a continuing education program).
• Must be a self-starter, adaptable, and able to work under tight deadlines.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, anticipate needs, and prioritize work.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Familiarity with video creation and editing and knowledge of multiple social media platforms (plus).

Compensation and Benefits:

• hourly rate: $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, $28 for Ph.D. candidates.
• Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
