This is a part-time employment opportunity for college-level interns, with job assignments closely related to their area of study. It is open to any full-time college or graduate-level student.

DISTIGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Total scheduled work hours shall not exceed 25 hours per work week (Monday through Friday).
• Intern positions do not include benefits, and interns are not eligible to receive paid leave, paid holidays, retirement, or any type of insurance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Duties will vary depending on the department.
• This particular internship is within the Communications and Community Engagement department.
• Specific duties include assisting with active marketing and public relations campaigns, providing copywriting support for internal and external communications teams, learning analytics and developing campaign recaps, updating website content, maintaining promotional items, assisting with media monitoring and outreach, and supporting upcoming events.

POST GRADUATION:
• At the discretion of the department appointment authority, Interns may continue to work up to 25 hours per week for up to two years following their graduation.

QUALIFICATIONS – MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education, Training And Experience (Intern I): Students currently enrolled as part-time students (generally six (6) – eleven (11) units) or full-time students (generally twelve (12) units and above) at an accredited college or university. School Enrollment Verifications are required.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
• If assigned to maritime facilities, must be able to pass a background check.
• If assigned to Harbor Police facilities, must be able to pass a background investigation including a polygraph examination.

RECRUITMENT INFORMATION:
Hourly rate steps depend on the total number of semester/quarter units completed upon hire and while participating in the Intern Program. Documentation from the school registrar is required for pay advancement.
• The application review process involves screening for completeness and minimum qualifications.
• Applicants must complete an application and Supplemental Questions to evaluate their qualifications.
• Only qualified applicants meeting minimum qualifications will be invited to the assessment process.
• The assessment may include a written examination, panel interview, or a combination.
• The Appraisal Panel is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, August 19, 2025.
• A passing score is 70% out of 100% on each assessment section.
